College, college, college!!! It is the focus of a growing number of high schools these days and for good reason. Did you know that a person with a four-year college degree will make one million dollars more over his or her lifetime than someone without a college degree? That’s right, a million bucks. A person with a college degree is also more likely to vote in elections, volunteer for charities, adapt to and use new technology, make better consumer decisions, read more, exercise more, have children with high mental abilities, and live longer than someone without a college degree!
With benefits such as all of those above, a college education is clearly the right choice, and the Freire Charter School aims to make that choice a reality. All courses here are college preparatory in nature. There are no vocational electives offered at Freire, so if you are interested in those, Freire Charter is not the right match for you. Freire only offers the courses colleges demand from high school students and research shows to be essential for preparing students effectively for collegiate success.
To graduate, all students must successfully complete (a grade of 70% or higher) the following courses at the Freire Charter School:

In addition to requiring all students to take college prep classes, the Freire Charter School aims to make a college education a reality for each child by offering him or her the services of a full-time college counselor on staff. Unlike other public schools in Philadelphia, Freire students have the luxury of working one-on-one with a trained professional in the admissions process rather than trying to rely on the occasional help of the traditional guidance counselor found in most high schools who has little time to handle college applications. Freire students are essentially given the same time and attention in the college admissions process as their peers are in the city’s most exclusive (and expensive) private schools. With something as important as your child’s future, Freire would not do it any other way. |
